As some of you may or may not know, there have been four Out of the Cold closures in Kitchener this year. This leaves many more people within the region without a place to stay, in addition to the estimated 1000 homeless people in Cambridge. This leaves the Cambridge Shelter scrambling to find funds and accommodations to meet the needs of the homeless within our region. Last year, I sponsored a family during the Holidays and with the help of my friends and family, I was able to raise over 500 dollars in gifts and donations. This year, the shelter has less family and has instead provided an emphasis on receiving donations for men over the age of 45, as they are the shelters predominant users. The Cambridge Shelter is looking for a gift of 250 dollars. This gift will provide a home for an individual or family in desperate need, including hot meals and the chance to move into more permanent housing. As a Home of the Holidays partner, Im asking you all to please consider making a small donation. In addition to dollar amounts, I am also gathering items such as toothbrushes, hats, scarves, gloves, soap, shampoo, razors and other small items that could help the growing population of homeless older men in our region.
