As someone responsible for helping to build the arts - TopicsExpress

As someone responsible for helping to build the arts infrastructure in India it deeply saddens me to keep on seeing (for more than 20 years now) how negligent the cultural media, the arts fraternity and the general public are in recognizing even in a basic manner the passing away of our great modern artistic masters, such as Prokash Karmakar (see attached images for a few of his great paintings) who sadly passed away a few days ago. Not even a line, let alone an Obituary or essay on his contribution and/or significance. The same happened for Biren De, G.R. Santosh, Sohan Qadri, Badrinarayan, among many others. We all are to blame for this disrespectful atmosphere, hence the lack of institutionalized history making, hence the inability to build a material framework for cultural development. I know that despite much work and effort we all fail on many projects but surely it is time that at least the basic systems of giving respect and courtesy to the deserving is maintained irrespective of circumstances and resources. Will try to find a solution, just airing the thought for others to react, suggest and build upon.
