As someone who has recovered from a severe depression, I really - TopicsExpress

As someone who has recovered from a severe depression, I really feel for Robin Williams and I notice that his death is sparking a necessary conversation that is born partly from the passing of a man who appeared to have everything taking his life. It is so isolating when you are in the throws of it. You know you are not right, your mind and soul hurt, your body hurts, you feel weighted down, you feel immensely guilty and people for the most part cannot and do not want to handle it and that is the toughest part. That is one of the reasons this happens. You are irritable, emotional, angry, impatient, listless, tired, apathetic, overwhelmed, and feel utterly bleak. You are hard on people and harder on yourself. The guilt is paralyzing. I found out who my friends were let me tell you after a car accident left me with whiplash and a brain injury and the depression that ensued and all that went with it really was devastating and for me the turning point was realizing I was never going to be the person who was in that car before the accident occured again. What a climb. He could not do the climb, and that climb is not for the faint of heart let me tell you. The big pharma throws pills at you, hopefully you get a therapist who knows how to motivate you but ultimately everyone is different and each person has to find their own solution. I am glad I lived to tell the tale but it was iffy. My empathy goes to his loved ones, I cannot imagine how they must feel. RIP R.W.
