As soon as I came home from Nicaragua, I posted most of my pictures. However, I didnt post about our trip to the Compassion site. Mostly because I needed to process it...also because I wanted to hold personally, privately in my heart for awhile. I mean, how can I possibly put this experience into words that would do it justice??? It was one of the most meaningful moments of my life. Our team visited the site in Los Brasiles, and I had the honor to meet Deyvin, the child that my family and I sponsor. He was shy at first, but his mother, Flor, overwhelmed me with her gratitude and excitement! We had the pleasure of visiting their home. While they are very poor financially, this was one of the richest families I have ever met. They were RICH in faith, love, and joy! Deyvin turned five the week before our arrival so it was a blast to celebrate him and sing him happy birthday! We also all went out to eat at Tip Top, which is similar to Kentucky Fried. I was saddened when Deyvins mom shared this was the first time she had ever been out to eat. As different as we were, the spiritual connection felt almost instantaneous, and I wasnt even embarrassed as I bawled on her shoulder when it was time for us to part. Exactly one week after our visit, as I was tucked safely back into my comfortable home and life, two devastating earthquakes hit this Compassion site. Most of the homes were left so damaged that they were uninhabitable. After Cory Martin and Stacy Schneider Martin were able to visit the site, I learned that Deyvin, as well as many others, were sleeping outside due to fear of their home falling in over night. I love this boy as a part of our family, and pray for him daily. There is a team of us who have a special heart for this Compassion site, and have decided to DO SOMETHING. A Camp Out for Compassion has been scheduled! To learn more, to join us, and/or to donate to this cause, please follow this link: nicacompassion.blogspot
