As soon as I heard about this story of slavery my skeptical radar was on alert. How could anyone have fallen for this rubbish about slavery? Brendan ONeill deserves a distinction in Media Studies for this deconstruction of how the Media, the Police and a questionable Charity constructed an urban myth. The story reminds me of Orson Welles legendary radio adaptation of H. G. Wells War of the Worlds back in 1938, when 1,000s of people really thought Martians were invading the USA. The Brixton slave story is rather similar as it plays on our contemporary fear and paranoia of stranger danger, foreign bogeymen and abusers living within the heart of our community.
