As soon as I mentioned to Dannions Special Ed teacher of record that I had made a preliminary call to IPAS (Indiana Protection and Advocacy Services) on Dannions behalf, in case we need a Disabilities Advocate to attend his next IEP (Individualized Education Plan) conference in order to help make sure that something concrete is done to reduce his nightly homework to a doable level (i.e. no more than 3 hrs. per night,) she suddenly became much more interested in helping him!! Imagine that! :-) I was nice and non-threatening, but apparently the very mention of IPAS, no matter how calmly its said, carries weight! (Right, Bonnie? :-) ) She spoke to the department chair, and they came up with the offer to drop Dannion from his 9-week Personal Finance course and then from the 9-week Keyboarding class that follows it, and to replace them for this semester with a 2nd study hall. My initial response to that idea is positive; I feel that it will REALLY help, as long as he is able to utilize that extra time to actually get an hours worth of his homework DONE at school! He wont be missing much by not taking Personal Finance at this point; he can learn how to budget $$ and pay his taxes when hes older than almost-13, :-) , and I can get a typing tutor program for him to learn keyboarding on, over the summer.
