As the 2013/14 Season comes to an end we have some good news - TopicsExpress

As the 2013/14 Season comes to an end we have some good news stories to share… Firstly, our Inspired Facilities application to Sport England has been approved! This is for a grant of £49,850 and is to be used for replacing our ageing gym equipment. We are yet to decide whether to move the gym and on the timing for the work, more later. We owe a huge debt of thanks to Paul Abel who managed the application process for us. Secondly, we have won back our ‘Gold Club’ status with England Squash. This puts us amongst the top squash clubs in the Country! Special thanks go to Jane Gott for tenaciously getting us this award. You’ll see a plaque go up shortly. Most people will know that we missed out narrowly on the PSL play-offs this season. But it was, nevertheless, a brilliant year. We sold out every home match – a first in recent times. We saw some amazing squash and we have registered our place in the 2014/15 League already. Huge thanks are due to Todd McQuilkin and Air-IT for their headline sponsorship – but thanks also to all of the other sponsors too – Gleeds, Innes England, MBC, PA Images, Tommy’s Tucker, Smith Cooper, Fantasy Squash, Freeth Cartwrght, Daisy Wholesale, Three Rooms, Skills coaches, Fastgraphics, High Growth and 360 Recruitment. Our plan is to make 2014/15 bigger and better. Thanks to Mark Fuller and his team for organizing the team – and thanks to all of the players in the year! Last week we saw some of the most closely fought Club Championships for many years – congratulations to all those who took part – but special thanks to Lisa and Claire for their organsation. It was our financial year end a few weeks ago. Many will know we have had a tough time and we are certainly not ‘out of the woods’ yet. But at the end of the year our membership numbers were holding steady and we made a (small) profit. Although we expect to use our overdraft over the next 12 months we were ‘in the black’ at the end of the year. We still have to make tough choices when we look at costs – but the hard choices we made this time last year are showing through. We have a few events to look forward to (and plan for!) over the next few months – the major event of the year will be the European Club Championships in September – we still need volunteers! Then look out for two big Charity Events – one in June and one in the Autumn. Details to follow… Finally, we are delighted to see some new faces around the club – our ‘Open Day’ was a huge success and we’ll be doing another soon. Please say hello to the new folks!
