As the AGM rapidly approaches us, Wiggill and Myself thought wed expand on Stebbs post and give you a bit more info on being social sec, to encourage the next generation to put their names forward. Especially as its one of those roles which you only see a certain side to There are two sides to being social sec, the first side, is obviously the side you guys see on a weekly basis. You have to be outgoing, authoritative but approachable and very very observant. Upholding drinking club rules is vital as is keeping to all of our long held traditions, so learn them! If you fall apart the circle falls apart (trust me on this one, Ive been there) Obviously you are required to organise the weekly socials, so creativity is a must, its also great if you have connections with other clubs to make joint socials easy! As social sec, it is obviously required that you are out every week! That sounds both fun and daunting, but as third year with almost weekly Thursday deadlines, it is definitely possible. For this reason, as well as others, unfortunately social sec is not an appropriate position for anybody on a work placement year or anyone who will have medical placements throughout the year. Its been tried by other clubs and unfortunately it just doesnt work. (any nurses/medics/placment year students, who would love to be social sec, if you know you can get the week of tour off, I strongly recommend going for tour sec) The other stuff you dont see is the organisation, it is a lot of fun and me and Wiggill have a huge laugh, but it does consume several hours a week. Particularly when you take into consideration other events such as Balls and Varisty! Lots of contacts with clubs etc have to be made and kept, even if we arent sponsored by them. think thats everything, if you have any questions please feel free to ask! WE CANT WAIT TO VOTE YOU IN! xox Like ·
