As the Absa Premiership takes its Christmas break, we take stock and look back at all the facts and figures that made up the first half of the season. Goals, goals and more goals! A total of 313 goals have been scored in the Premiership so far this season, with an average of 18 goals scored each round. Moeketsi Sekola of Free State Stars and Polokwane City’s Puleng Tlolane are the League’s top goal-scorers thus far, with eight goals apiece. All-out attack Kaizer Chiefs have scored the highest number of goals this season: 27 in their 18 matches. Polokwane City are just one goal behind on 26, having played a game less. Orlando Pirates (24) and Mamelodi Sundowns (22) follow suit, followed by a host of clubs who have scored 20 goals: Bidvest Wits, Maritzburg United, SuperSport United and Moroka Swallows. AmaZulu have scored the least: 13 after 16 matches. Leaky defence Polokwane City have been most porous at the back thus far this season, conceding 32 in 17 matches. Moroka Swallows have also been shaky in defence, letting in 27, followed closely by AmaZulu on 26. Kaizer Chiefs have been solid in front of their posts, conceding just eight. Most wins Chiefs’ impressive run continues, having recorded the most wins thus far this season – 14. Bidvest Wits have earned the second-most amount of victories (9), followed by Mamelodi Sundowns (8) and Orlando Pirates and Polokwane City (7). AmaZulu have recorded the lkeast wins, with just one three-pointer to their name, followed by Platinum Stars and the University of Pretoria, with four wins each. Deadlocks Trio Mamelodi Sundowns, Maritzburg United and AmaTuks lead the charts for the most draws thus far this season: seven apiece. They are followed closely by AmaZulu, Ajax Cape Town and Black Aces, who have earned six draws each. Struggles AmaZulu and Free State Stars have recorded the most losses – nine each, with Usuthu propping up the table hallway through the season with just nine points from 16 games. Swallows and SuperSport have already lost eight of their League matches thus far this season. Gap Kaizer Chiefs head into the new year at the summit of the Absa Premiership standings on 46 points, with a healthy 15-point lead over joint second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns and Bidvest Wits on 31. Orlando Pirates are fourth on 26 points, followed Ajax Cape Town and Polokwane City on 24.
