As the Guidance Center continues to celebrate its 60th Anniversary with a joint research conference on childrens mental health, this Friday morning, November 8th; we continue to be confronted with the NYS Office of Mental Healths push for us not to see the children of underinsured middle class and working poor families that costitute 70% of our outpatient population. It is their contention that the private marktplace will serve them. But, they will not! Why? Many private practitioners do not accept private insurance. And, others will not devote the intensive and costly labor necessary to address frequent crises and the need for extensive collateral contacts. Everything is Medicaid-oriented and that is discriminatory.
