As the Havanese community is reeling from one of our leaders - TopicsExpress

As the Havanese community is reeling from one of our leaders becoming accountable in a very public way, maybe this is a good time for all breeders to do some self-reflection. How many is too many? Thats a question that is very individualized and changes with life circumstances. They are all precious to us. Even if we dont breed a lot, it can creep up on us. There are those special heart dogs who could never live anywhere but with us. There are the returned dogs or special needs dogs that we feel responsible for providing a home. Then, there are our current dogs that we are breeding to improve our breed, be our show dog or produce family pets for those many families who are requesting. Each time we produce a litter theres usually at least one that is a perfect result of what we had hoped from the pairing that becomes a potential part of our future breeding program. I guess difficult decisions must be made. It boils down to the truth we must face- are we providing the kind of care and environment that we seek for our own precious puppies that we produce for pet homes???? Its time for us to assume individual accountability in preparation for a possible time of public scrutiny that could happen at any time. How do you determine your too many limit ? What do you do when this occurs? What if you have friends or fellow club members that may not be making good decisions?
