As the Karachi Airport attack unfolds, I feel astonished to see how inept we come across as in handling emergencies like this. Pakistan (government, army, public, media) must rethink its way of dealing with such emergencies. * There should be, in case of any attack, a protocol defined for everyone ... EVERYONE - media, ambulances, security forces, and public! * Media should NOT be reporting live - there should be at least a gap of 15 mins before something goes on tv, and even then it should withhold sensitive information. * Media should tone their voices down! Their volume and tone adds a lot more terror to a story! * Ambulances should line up, rather than try to barge in left, right and center. Youll be more efficient in getting the injured to the hospital if you line up. * Coordination is important. Its good to see that the DG Rangers eventually took command, but who was in-charge of all the disparate forces before that? Who must everyone listen to? * Start using those Police Line - Do Not Cross tapes to keep public (and any unauthorized person) at bay. * Where is the air support to counter such attacks? Get helicopters with those big search lights! That will help getting the right results quicker, especially at night time. We need to learn from our mistakes and weaknesses. Today, we might be in a mess; but tomorrow we can shine again. And we will. #Karachi #KarachiAirport #WeMustLearn #future #hope
