As the USPS goes into overdrive to deliver presents far and wide, here’s some food for thought. As John Nichols of The Nation writes: “Postal workers, mail handlers, letter carriers and rural carriers will process and deliver more than 15.5 billion packages, letters, and parcels this holiday season. Its intense, demanding, long-hours, late-night and weekend work that keeps the promise of a robust national Postal Service outlined in Article 1 of the United States Constitution.” Despite this vital service, the USPS is constantly facing attacks by members of Congress who’d rather see the entire system privatized and sold to the lowest bidder. This would be a huge blow to our rural communities, senior citizens and small businesses, which is why I’ve consistently fought back against ill-conceived cuts to our U.S. Postal Service. This is an agency that needs flexibility to compete in today’s marketplace, not restrictions that will drive it into the ground. Read the article here:
