As the big day draws closer, Im reminded of joining my first ship ( HMS ABDIEL) after completing training, and as was the norm, newest ships company was automatically put down to be duty over Christmas. So after a late night down the mess participating in the 3 tins per man per day perhaps, I rather groggily wandered onto the jetty around 9am to ring my mum to wish all the family a Merry Christmas etc. Bearing in mind cheffy training consisted of producing meals for 4 people (and I was a caterer before all the amalgamation malarkey) I dropped it into conversation to my mum that I had two 16lb Turkeys to cook for lunch and what time did she suggest I put them in the oven. Her reply was last night which didnt really help with my hangover.
