As the daylight hours get shorter and nights get cooler, you will - TopicsExpress

As the daylight hours get shorter and nights get cooler, you will begin to see a change in the colors of the outdoors. The leaves of plants begin slowing down food production and the chlorophyll begins to break down. Chlorophyll is responsible for the green color in plants. As the green fades away, the leaves show their true colors, including oranges and yellows. The warm, sunny days followed by cool nights bring about purples and reds we see in some plants. This is a beautiful time to take a hike, canoe or drive though Missouri state parks and historic sites to observe the diverse colors of the landscape.
