As the debate on the 2014 budget commences in Parliament today former Finance Minister in the then PNC government, Carl Greenidge will address the house. No doubt Greenidges presentation will be riddled with criticism and no acknowledgement is expected of the strides made since 1992, particularly 8 consecutive years of economic growth since 2005. We must however, remind our viewers of Greenidges sordid past and what the country endured under his stewardship as Finance Minister. Here is a Stabroek News clipping following his presentation of the 1987 budget which was dubbed ten-to-one-is-murder. Some of the measures proposed and implemented led to a massive increase in the cost of living and prices for imported commodities which Guyana as at the time heavily reliant on sky-rocketed. Greenidges 1987 budget brought further untold suffering on an already suffering population. Even the cost of leaving the country jumped significantly
