As the estimable Wojciech Pisarski has suggested, heres a new thread. As a civilian, brought up in peacetime, its not my place to comment on the wartime bravery of individuals, or nations. And people of Polish descent are bound to be Polono-centric in their views. Indeeed, this page is designed to remedy some lacunae in the perception of WW2. In the words of Monty Python, conducting an argument is not mere gainsaying,, but marshalling facts and using them to reach a conclusion. This is where we are at the moment - some other members are selectively picking and choosing facts, while ignoring inconvenient ones. And this is the point about history - some things are facts, not opinions. It does a huge disservice to those who fought and suffered to wilfully attempt to change those facts, or obscure them. That was one of the cardinal sins of the communists, and its depressing to see their methodology still in vogue. The whole pont about online fora is that it allows a dialogue, a sifting, an awareness that one may not be in full possession of all facts. Im aware that challenging long-held, and deeply treasured, ideas is not always a recipe for fraternal relations. But isnt that at least partly what this page is about ? < Stands back, awaits online explosion >.
