As the inevitable arrival of the 2014 rainy season draws - TopicsExpress

As the inevitable arrival of the 2014 rainy season draws perilously closer, I cannot help but worry about what fate lies for the people living in places like Akwamuma/Egbeada, Egbu Housing, Works Layout and virtually the entire state capital as well as the local governments where haphazard, substandard and abandoned jobs have been done by government and now the people risk suffering more than they have ever suffered before due to these avoidable circumstances. Two days ago after a brief rain in Owerri, I got a first-hand experience of what the people living at Akwakuma and its environs most especially those living near the haphazardly done yet abandoned roundabout should expect this coming rainy season. It wasnt a funny sight believe me. That a not too strong rain of less than thirty minutes could causes such havoc as I saw that day, I wonder what a strong one hour rain will do there. As I watch the gathering rain clouds as I write this evening, I wondered, how did it get this bad? Why are we still suffering in Imo State despite all the promises of better leadership? Why cant we boast of one standard road built in Imo State within the last four years? Why is our dear state a littering ground for abandoned and substandard projects that go to cause more problems for the people of Imo State rather than alleviate our age long sufferings? Is this government really people oriented or family oriented? Is this administration the answer the people of Imo State are seeking and if so, why is there no significant change for good in our lives after four years of empty promises? Sometime last two years, the excuse the supporters and proponents of this government used to give was that the rainy season was hindering the massive construction revolution about to happen in Imo State. Well, two dry seasons have passed and we are about to step into another rainy season and none of these supporters of this government have been able to point out just one standard road completed and commissioned by this government rather Imo State is filled with roads that fall apart after six months of construction while a larger number of road projects have been abandoned causing more hardship to the people of Imo State. A month or two ago, ORO, being the award-winning movie director he should be if he had chosen an acting profession gathered some fake contractors and stage-managed their arrests for the benefits of the gullible illiterates. Use your brain and ask yourself how many of those so-called contractors have appeared in any court to answer for breech of contract? In fact, what more have you heard about them after the so-called arrest? ORO did the act to fool those who have forgotten how to make use of their brains which I believe you are not among them. We can continue telling ourselves the same lie we have been bondaging ourselves with for the past three and half years or we can start telling ourselves the truth and demand for change towards the right direction. Owelle is without doubt, the most self-centered, confused and uncoordinated governor to lead Imo State after Ohakims unprepared leadership which was destined for the rocks from its onset. Imo State have grown beyond the stage where a lying sweet talker will fool us with all the lies we want to hear and take us for a ride. Imo State needs change in the right direction which clearly is not ORO and come 2015 it would be your decision to embrace substandard roads which one day could lead to an accident that could claim your life and the life of loved ones or demand for positive change and demand for an expert to manage the affairs of this state. The choice is yours. The future of your family, your children and our generations unborn depends on the right or wrong decision we make today. Sit down, use your head and reassess the government. Mentally point out those people-oriented projects of this administration and mentally evaluate them pointing out how they benefit Ndi Imo. For once think rationally without sentiments or clouded judgments. For those paid to defend the government, that pocket change you are being paid to lie for the government cannot bring back your loved one who might become the next victim of the lie you helped to defend and trust me when I say this, God knows how and when to pay each man back with his own coin so be careful make God no vex for you. You have a brain, make use of it. The rains have finally started this night. I hope no life is lost. I pray no more properties and businesses are destroyed at Akwakuma and environs. I pray God open our eyes to make the right decision. Ka Chineke mezie okwu. Comrade Obinna Akuwudike
