As the legislature continues to wrestle with budget decisions, teachers prepare to return to work. With or without a raise, the children of North Carolina will receive the best education from some of the most dedicated people I know. As our teacher assistants wait to hear if Raleigh values the vital work they do, we will remind our elected officials why we decided to put these professionals in the classroom with us. If I had my way, every classroom would have a paraprofessional standing by the side of the teacher.
