As the number of Ebola cases reduces in the county, the people of Lofa (the first epic center of the Ebola outbreak in Liberia) are now beginning to count theirs loses with women being the hardest hit group. And now women are now trying to bring back light in Lofa after almost 3 months of darkness by Ebola. Yesterday, while walking in the street of Voinjama, I noticed a changed; a newly opened country handmade cloth Center. I walked in to know the owner. Madam Esther Dorbor is the owner. She told me that she has being training young and older women in the county to learn how to weave country cloth (which is the symbol of Lofa) in order to earned some money on their own and reduce the dependency on men. But since the Ebola crises, everything has gone to square one with no more money to continue the training because, NGOs sponsoring the training have shutdown and left the country due to the Ebola, and trainees too are nowhere to be found. Now, as the fight against the deadly Ebola virus slowly comes to an end, Madam Dorbor said, it’s time to get back to work to tell the world that Ebola killed our people but did not killed our cultures. That’s why she said, she opened her shop so that people can buy some of her work and to let the world know that everyone can’t died in War. Another woman I met is Madam Mary Tarnue, an educator who lives in the Kizza Community in central Voinjama. Madam Tarnue had gone in her community to asked parents to send their children to a study class she had organized with no cost attached. She said as an educated person, she does not feel good seeing children roaming in the community doing nothing as schools are closed. It is good to keep the kids busy as we all wait the reopening of school in the country she told me. As we climax this fight against this deadly Ebola Virus very soon, let’s not forget about the women. As the late reggae singer Luke Dube said: GOD BLESS THE WOMEN Remember: WE ARE FIGHTING TOGETHER
