As the penultimate day of our ten month-long municipal campaign - TopicsExpress

As the penultimate day of our ten month-long municipal campaign dawns, one is again struck by how completely, outside partisan interference corrupts our supposedly party-free local election. Lazy mainstream media does its best to further skew public opinion to favour not what best serves the city or its citizenry, but what best supports a struggling, largely Toronto-based national media industry. Our mayoralty race has been John Torys to lose from day one. And he will win the office barring a last-minute monumental collapse, not because of his vision for the future, but rather his blind obeisance to past failure. Even his top platform plank - Fighting GRIDLOCK - revolves around a problem he has helped create in this city for the past four decades. He rode a bike on Torontos inadequate downtown infrastructure for the first - and probably only - time in his life during the campaign. And he accepted the support of an arguably even less-skilled cyclist and street-level traffic congestion fighter, duplicitously inept PWIC chair, Denzil Minnan-Wong. The only thing these two empty suits have ever moved in our city is the paper on their desks. Both are totally incapable of truly understanding the urban mobility changes the city must undergo to progress. Still Toronto will be a better place come Tuesday morning because our hometowns globally bemusing mistake of four years ago, will have finally been addressed. For lack of a better realistic option - sorry, Himy Syed - I voted in my home Ward 19s advance poll more than a week ago for Olivia Chow, and also happily for our neighbourhoods hard-working incumbent councillor, Mike Layton. Had Ward 20s Albert Koehl been running for the mayors job, I would have voted for him. Maybe next time, eh? Despite - or perhaps, because of - all the attendant bullshit, one urges all citizens to better inform themselves as to the options available to us, and VOTE on Monday. And then remember that democracy is all about what we do between elections to keep our elected representatives properly engaged. PS/ KOEHL for COUNCIL in WARD 20 B| (y)
