As the rave of insecurity continues almost unabated in Nigeria, the Sultan of Sokoto and President General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, (NSCIA), Sa’ad Abubakar III has introduced a new surveillance measure to curb the menace. The Sultan admonished district heads across the state to monitor newcomers to their domains and also report same to the relevant traditional rulers. He advised that a monthly data of happenings within their domains be reported for further analysis. Charging the traditional rulers to sensitise their subjects on the necessity of monitoring and supervising schools within their domains, the Sultan urged the traditional rulers to set up committees in the hamlets, villages, wards, districts and local government levels to help in routine evaluation of development in their localities. In a communiqué signed by the Secretary to the Sultanate Council, Alhaji Attahiru Hussaini and made available to LEADERSHIP Sunday, he urged district heads to strive towards monitoring government projects aimed at improving standard of living within their domains. “There is the need for the district heads to set up a committee at the district, village and hamlet levels. This is with the view to take more care of government development projects in their respective domains”.
