As the regime prepares for yet another shame election, sporadic protest is flaring up in Ethiopia. In Adama & Shashamane, Oromo artists ( singers, writers, painters) have turned what is supposed to be an indoctrination conference into a protest gathering whereby, instead of their planned propaganda lectures, government officials are forced to listen to grievances and condemnation of the government. In the capital, Muslims staged unannounced surprise protest during the Jima (Friday) prayer. The Northern city of Bahr Dar also saw large number of demonstrators converging on the city hall protesting against government plan to take away part of a public square for road construction. Although uncoordinated, such simultaneous protests will surely make the regime nervous leading it to resort to the usual violent crackdown.
