As the turbulent world stepped into yet another Gregorian year, I - TopicsExpress

As the turbulent world stepped into yet another Gregorian year, I personally wish humanity peaceful and eventful year. Particularly, my country Nigeria ,as we head into yet another electioneering year. An election that holds a lot of mixed feelings and reactions. This election is unique considering the state of the nation and the governments handling of the economy and security. It is also unique, In that, this is arguably the first time ever in the nations democratic experimentation that an incumbent could be unseated looking at the demeanor of the electorates and the governments apparently poor handling of the nation. It is also an electioneering year in which Nigerians are anxiously and cautiously bracing up for any eventuality that could be the aftermath of the general election as the unfortunate killings that greeted the 2011 announcement of national election result is still fresh in their minds. Nigeria has a very bad electoral record largely because of the architecture of the electoral umpire, the lapses in its electoral laws and most importantly, the do or die attitude of our politicians who collectively made it difficult and sometimes impossible for the vote of Nigerians to count. If the wide spread predictions of Nigerians, political analysts and observers of the opposition unseating the incumbent comes to pass, Nigerias democracy would then be firmly rooted and good governance will be enhanced, governmental impunity will be curtailed. We therefore wish all Nigerians peaceful outing and the electoral umpire the courage to side with Nigeria and Nigerians in its, admittedly, difficult but important tasks of midwifing yet another set of political leaders that will steer the ship of this potentially great country of ours. God Almighty be with us.
