As this D League All Star team season draws to an end, Im wondering who will be back next season to join our extremely high draft picks as we start the slow climb back to relevance. Note: I had to go to the team web site and look at the roster to make sure I didnt miss anybody :-). G/F James Anderson- Hes earned the right to come into camp and play for a roster spot next season. Ive seen worse swingmen off the bench than him. PG Michael Carter-Williams- No-brainer. This team will be built around him. PF Brandon Davies- I dont think so, unless he gets a ton of minutes in these last games and really pours it on. PF Arnett Moultrie- The only reason I see him in camp next season is that he cost a first rounder. Id bring him to camp as a longshot to make the team short of him playing his butt off. There are too many bigs hanging around for him to think hes got it made. C Byron Mullens- Hell be back as a deep reserve. Hes the biggest joker on the team (7 feet 275) and he can shoot threes. That makes him just useful enough to grab a spot as last big off the bench, for when the starters get in early foul trouble. We carried Kwame Brown for Petes sake- Mullens should hold a spot. F/C Nerlens Noel- Let the Noel/MCW era begin! After a full year to heal, I expect him to come in and complete the process MCW started, that of making us forget all about Jrue Holiday. F James Nunnally- No. He can shoot a little, but he wont get enough time to show what he can really do here,. G Jason Richardson- If they cant get a Gordon Hayward in free agency, Richardson will come back to provide veteran leadership and a little scoring here and there. Hed be a steadying influence on MCW and whatever lottery pick winds up here. I wouldnt mind having him on the end of the bench with Mullens for when hes needed. C Henry Sims- I think he will definitely be back. I dont know if he starts at center with Noel at power forward or if he comes off the bench, but hes useful. He rebounds, passes well, blocks a shot now and then and scores when you need him to. Not a superstar, but hes solid and defensive-minded. G/F Hollis Thompson- Hell get to come back to camp and earn his roster spot all over again. Hell probably be caught up in the numbers after we draft Wiggins or Parker or Randle, but he has the skills to compete for a bench spot. F/C Jarvis Varnado- If he cant beat out Moultrie for the backup power forward gig, he doesnt deserve to be on an NBA roster. Hes showing flashes of being a good shot blocker, but hell have to come to camp and win a roster spot. G Casper Ware- I dont even know who he is, much less why hed be back next season. G Elliott Williams- Another one who gets to come to camp and win his roster spot back. Hes shown flashes lately, but nothing spectacular. G Tony Wroten- Hell be back. He pisses folks off with his lame defense and tantalizes us with his scoring potential at the same time. Hes about 20 years old, which means hes still teachable. If Brett Brown can get him to work on his D and his foul shooting, he could be one heck of a sixth man. F Thaddeus Young- Hell be back unless somebody blows the Sixers away with a trade offer, and we need him here. Hes done everything asked of him, from scoring more to rebounding more to playing D to shooting threes when he knows thats not his game, and didnt itch and groan when he wasnt traded along with Hawes and Turner. He deserves to be here when we turn it around, whether hes starting or coming off the bench like he did a few seasons ago. Needless to say, next summer will be a good time to come into Sixers camp if you want a job. Second round picks will have an excellent chance of sticking, and if someone tears it up in summer league, he might get a chance too.
