As this tragic event unfolds, everyone seems to be coming to the support of the RCMP which is natural I would suppose. However, although I am sympathetic toward the families and friends of those who have been killed and injured, I cannot feel any sympathy for the RCMP as an entity whatsoever. We reap what we sow. When I watched their spokesman on the news, he was genuinely distraught and grief stricken. I couldnt summon an ounce of compassion for him or his compatriots, but rather thought to myself, now you know how so many others feel when their loved ones have been needlessly taken by you guys. I would hope that once this event is concluded, the the RCMP and others in law enforcement will take a serious look within and make some positive changes that will restore their credibility and more importantly the respect many of us have lost for them. We the public are not the enemy but push us far enough and we certainly can be. I, in no way, condone the actions of this gunman but I can certainly understand how someone could find themselves in his position. If law enforcement continue in their heavy handed, adversarial treatment of honest citizens, they can expect more of these tragic and deplorable acts in the future. We need to do some serious soul searching and not be blinded by the emotions of such a tragic event but rather decipher the underlying issues and resolve them.
