As this week begins Im thinking of three amazing and wonderful people who have helped shape me into the person that i am today. I have had many teachers in my life, but the three that i hold closest to my heart are now watching upon me and are with me everywhere i go from heaven. I have always missed aunty Momi, and i still reflect on the many memories i have with her. She has taught me how to Mother, and care for people, to be aware of whats going on, and to always act upon things full hearted, and with integrity, to love all things and to embrace every moment. Repetition is the mother of Skill….. focus on your weaknesses, to achieve over all satisfaction. I am forever grateful for your love and passion, and for teaching me that its ok to think out of the box. I am Missing my Aunty Stella Burgess, Lessons of aloha, long chats on the phone, calling me with the sweet voice Hinano……. Or calling me Baby…. i know you are with me every day, i know you are behind me especially this week, as i know if you were here you would call me to ask me if i needed anything for the Kauai Mokihana festival. You were the most honest person, always told me the truth and kept me humble. you have given me opportunities that until this day Im speechless of the types of experiences i had with you. from the many trips to Maui to be with uncle Charles K Kaupu Jr and the amazing times we had in Kokee. you are always going to be the queen of the mountain. every time Im in Kokee I think of the many experiences i have had with you. Now when i go to Kokee i always see a white Owl, that was never the case until your Passing. even at our Uniki I could feel your presence, smell the pua melia, and a soft gentile rain of the forrest. i could feel you welcome me into your home. I miss you and Love you I know Kumu is with you…. As this week begins Im thinking of my Kumu Doric Yaris How i always shared our Hula presentation for the Hui Ohana category with him, he would watch, and when we are done he would look at me and tell me…. Hinano, you make me so proud, I love you, and then we would share a big Hug……thats not the case this year……. but i know you are here with me in spirit and i know you will give me the ok sign….. I havent seen it yet but i will be on the lookout for it…. as you you know Im very much connected with the elements around me! this year I will honor all three of you in our performance, i will only have three dancers and I am one of them, I have never danced in this category, and as you know i never enter this to win, but to share my love for our culture, to share my passion for the dance that connects us to the mele, to bring the elements of Laka, to the platform, and to remember our Kupuna, in every step we take. Life is simply made up of beautiful timings, and you three are always in my heart and i hope to perpetuate with honor, for the love of all things in our world, through the teachings of my Kupuna.
