As usual I came on here this morning to stroll down the newsfeed to see what is being commented on. I woke up in good spirits as I often do. But then I came across this which has brought tears to my eyes... youtube/watch?v=nP0XTvuRycY and has prompted me to post this. Stacey`s full documentary can be found here: youtube/watch?v=SgKMI1wV0ps If you watch the full documentary you might be able to see where all this is coming from and why. Appallingly some young people in our country feel they have no hope and acceptance into a radical, extremist movement is the only way they feel they can have a purpose in life. That is how they are recruited. And, of course social media is making it all easier. In my opinion, our government policies, reforms, lack of funding for third sector organisations is not helping. (There is an example in the film about how one such voluntary organisation, Diverse FM, are helping a would be future extremist). We need more organisations like this to reach them first. Regardless of your views on immigration policies, British citizens, whatever colour, race or religion, are being let down and more voluntary orgs of this nature need funding. Naturally we will not agree with or tolerate many of the thoughts and views of the extremists and I`m certainly not defending them. But as Stacey says in her film, we should at least listen and begin to try and understand the background to it all. Just because the extremists may not listen, as occasionally comes across in the film, it doesn`t mean we shouldn`t at least attempt to, otherwise we`re equally as ignorant. There are reasons why they feel so passionately the way they do, so instead of spouting off send em all back home, etc, maybe we should take note of Stacey`s message. And anyway, it`s too late for that! And disharmony with our fellow citizens will only increase. There are of course many other issues to be dealt with, not least the problem faced by public authorities who feel they cannot act because of a need to keep racial harmony/tensions under control and, following the Rotherham controversy, we all know what a disaster this can cause. I don`t often comment on racial issues but I`m very worried with all this and where it will all lead. I have Asian friends who I respect and am proud of my acceptance of all. I`m not a great fan of mainstream media but, in my view, Stacey`s piece is an exceptional piece of journalism. Like me, you`ll probably be upset by the first short film but please watch the long version of her documentary to the end.
