As vigorous and vibrant as I like to believe myself to be, I have come to the realization that I am indeed Old School. Understanding that I am Old School, I just pray that unlike many “old-schoolers”, I don’t become overly cynical of the works, ways, and methodologies of the New School. As I eagerly watch the historical happenings currently taking place across these yet to be United States of America, it is the New School who is out in the streets demanding change of criminal injustice system of America; it is the New School who is challenging the status quo. It is the often times the hoodie wearing, sagging, artfully tattooed, body pierced New School who is not only on FB talking about it, but who are present in the public square being about it. Just as in times past, it is the New School who has captured the attention of the entire world as it concerns social change in our great country. On the other hand, MOST of us “old-schoolers” are to too absorbed with our reputations, our careers, our selfish ambitions, our precious time, and maintaining the stability of our stagnant and predictable lifestyles that we dare not to rock the boat; we dare not risk our personal comforts for the positive collective change for the whole. So, Old School, the next time you get the inclination to demonize and to bring into question the tactics of the New School, remember that MANY of them are doing the kingdom WORK of hoping, and preparing a better future for our children and grandchildren while many of us are distracted with the present cares of OUR small, self centered, and simple worlds, only spewing out our personal ideologies via social media (many times poorly informed).
