As was common with my father, Richard Strand, he waited until halftime of the football game before he was ready to go. He would always leave my games at half time when we were blowing the other team out, and tonight I turned on the game and put the speaker next to his ear so he could listen to the game. He was at peace and he was a fighter. The hospital took him off the ventilator at 2;00 and he passed tonight just around 9:00 p.m. He was the greatest man I ever knew, my best friend, my coach and most importantly the best father any man could ever have. He will be missed by so many, but non more than me, this is a huge void that I am not sure can ever fill. Jake just gave me a huge hug and said I smelled like grandpa, I am wearing one of his pullovers and yes it smells like dad. Thank you all for the kind words, god bless you all. We will post details about the wake/visitation and funeral service probably later tomorrow.
