As we approach the four-day mark of my stay at Maple Grove - TopicsExpress

As we approach the four-day mark of my stay at Maple Grove Hospital for surgery on a hole in my stomach, I have to admit that Ive learned a few important things: 1. Ive learned to appreciate the beauty of scrubs pants, as I finally got a pair to wear under my open-backed hospital gown for my hobbled little walks around the hallways. While I certainly feel less free than before, I suspect everyone benefited from that change. 2. Ive learned that telling a nurse that she cant do something new and painful to you because you have an important parade coming up just makes her laugh. Corollary: Nurses might generally be just as stubborn as me. 3. Ive learned that having my own little morphine button to push - even if just for a couple days - is no small gift. 4. Ive learned that after four days of very strict no-food/water policy here, suddenly nothing seems more important in my life than DQs announcement today of Chips Ahoy as the August Blizzard of the Month. 5. Ive learned its just as important to have a strong team as a strong candidate. Losing a week so unexpectedly right before the primary could have been very damaging to this campaign, but it hasnt been and wont be because of the amazing volunteers, staff and family who have stepped up this week. That team and organization is one of the key reasons I believe I was endorsed at the convention in May and will be one of the key reasons we will win in August and November. Thank you all for your support, prayers and patience. Its been a tough few days, but I think the worst is past and Ill be back out on the trail before we know it. Jeff
