As we are entering the era of private space travel, I would like - TopicsExpress

As we are entering the era of private space travel, I would like to hear your thoughts. I remember when there were no man made satellites in orbit. I remember Sputnik. I remember when the US launced a satellite with a dog in it. This must have been around 1958. This was big news. I was about 5 years old. My Mom, Aunt and I went out to see if we could see it. I was living along Route 30 outside of Chester, West Virginia at the time. I expected to see an orb with a dog in it. I didnt see anything. Then, I remember manned space flight. I remember John Glenn. I was in the second grade and was listening to the space launch with a 2-transistor radio with the earplug in my ear. The teacher caught me and took my radio away. I always wanted to work for NASA. I finally got my chance in the year 2000 when I worked as a contractor for NASA in the Breakthrough Propulsion Physics group and Advanced Rocket Science group. By then, NASA had been taken over by the lawyers and MBAs. It was no longer an engineering driven organization. My dreams were dashed and I saw reality. I belong to many science groups where these discussions are banned. Of course, the astronauts travel in micro or zero gravity. This is very disorienting and 75% of all astronauts get sick and puke their guts out. Originally, astronauts were men. How do you go to the bathroom. A condom like device was attached to the penis. It had a tube to collect the urine. Bowelmovements were made in a bag as you are sitting within 1 foot (0.5 meter) of your capsule mate. There was no privacy. Today, we do have suction toilets, but they still are not great. When the Space Shuttles returned to Earth, they were covered in vomit, urine, and feces. I no longer desire to be in space. I have given up that dream.
