As we close out the first week of school I am filled with a variety of different emotions. I am soo excited to see Ever grow and become such a great young man. This joy I can’t fully express in words but it’s like breathing. My heart also aches knowing that so many of our young black men (boys) are being taken away from us in horrific ways. I struggle with my joy of seeing my son progress also being careful not to forget that families around me are feeling massive heartbreak. I am sending my prayers out to Gail Payton Wayne and I admittedly have no words other than that I am praying for you all and love you. Our families have been connected for well over 50 years and their hurt and pain is truly shared as family pain. This weekend they will be saying goodbye their 24yr. old son who was an innocent bystander gunned down last weekend. The last couple years their has been an uproar about police killing young black men and yet YOUNG BLACK MEN CONTINUE TO KILL OTHER YOUNG BLACK MEN. This MUST STOP…. Black on Black crime is just as wrong as police brutality and as a community we MUST get back to raising our children. YOU ARE their parents FIRST not their friend. I grew up in the day and age when our neighbors could reprimand and if needed spank us if we got out of line. Our community has lost what the generations before us worked so hard for. I think about Lil Wayne and I honestly just weep because I too was shot as an innocent bystander nearly 11 years ago. It’s not about being in the wrong place at the wrong time its about our community resorting to guns to solve our differences. This must STOP!!! I fear the world I am raising my son up to live in and all I can do is TRUST IN GOD, do my part to instill in him the things that I know to be right and trust that hes protected when I cant protect him.
