As we end the year, I think there are positive signs for County Clare for 2015. Notwithstanding the fact many people are still hurting, the county has benefitted significantly from Government policy in the past 12 months. Here are some examples: Unemployment in County Clare dropped by almost 13% in 2014. We expect national unemployment to fall to under 10% next year and to continue in that trend. In the last year, €3.189 million went towards capital spend for schools in County Clare. The lower VAT rate and the ending of the travel tax has helped boost tourist numbers to their highest in years. This year, County Clare saw 485,000 tourists visit the county. They brought €94 million in revenue and helped in the rejuvenation of Shannon Airport and the creation and retention of many jobs. Farmers in County Clare received €63.026 million in funding throughout 2014 and the agri-food business sector continues to expand under this Government. Ten new Garda cars were provided for County Clare this year. Next year nationally there are 400 new cars being provided.
