As we enter into the final stages of this Mayoral campaign, I want to share with you my thoughts with you andask you as a New York City resident to be an active participant in determining who will be our next Mayor. I believe that Joe Lhota is the candidate best qualified to become the Mayor of New York City. Joe is the only candidate with the hands on experience of running major government institutions with many moving parts. The other candidates are certainly dedicated to New Yorkers, but their experience has been limited to running a legislative office, a government agency, a nonprofit, and/or a private sector company. No other candidate has the breadth and depth of experience that Joe has. As we all know, being Mayor requires diplomacy, integrity, vision, ability to communicate effectively, intelligence, commitment to diverse communities, managerial aptitude, financial wizardry, and political acumen—and of course, having a sense of humor. To know Joe is to realize that he has all of these traits, as well as the experience of running big time operations, both in the private and public sectors. His jobs have taken him from Main Street to Wall Street and back again. He has demonstrated his commitment to public service through his jobs as Finance Commissioner, Budget Director, Deputy Mayor, and MTA Chief. He has supported us through storms, both figuratively and literally, demonstrating his ability to be a leader in difficult times. He is interested in us as City residents and human beings, and he is interested in helping us live happy, healthy and productive lives. I believe that Joe comes by this commitment honestly. He is a native New Yorker, having been born and raised in the Bronx. His father was a NYC police lieutenant, and his grandfathers were a NYC firefighter and taxi driver respectively. Upon his graduation from Harvard Business School, Joe spent 15 years on Wall Street as an investment banker specializing in public finance. When the call came for him to join the Giuliani administration, it appeared to those of us who worked in government that this was a natural fit. On a personal level, Joe is warm and friendly, supportive and caring, funny and generous. He never lacks for words of encouragement. He loves his family, he loves his life, and he loves serving the people of New York. I can think of no finer person to become our new Mayor. I strongly urge you to support Joe both financially and with your vote.
