As we got ready to say goodbye to 2014 we ended it with a beautiful new baby in our family. Our newest bundle of joy to the Liss family Layla joined us on Christmas Night. Laylas Daddy is Dans first cousin Josh who was considered a brother to Dan. Layla would be considered a niece to Dan and someone he would love unconditionally and do anything for. Please take a moment to read the note from Josh and Kenzie on our sweet new Layla. Friends and Family: Kenzie and I are pleased to announce that we welcomed our daughter, Layla Kay, into this world on Christmas Day at 9:10pm, weighing in at a healthy 7lbs 14oz. She was born 100% naturally with the assistance of two amazing midwives and we enjoyed a peaceful hour of invaluable family time that we will never forget. During her newborn exam, a large mass was discovered in her abdomen and she was evaluated at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Princeton University Medical Center. We were soon transferred to the NICU at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), and after several hard days of waiting and testing we now know that she has a malignant tumor on liver, known as Hepatoblastoma. We are waiting on final results from pathology and a definitive treatment plan from the team of oncologists, but we expect to begin chemotherapy by the weekend, with hopes of shrinking the tumor to a point that the surgeons here at CHOP can safely conduct a complete resection (removal). Layla is doing well and you’d never know anything is wrong by looking at her. She is the most beautiful thing we’ve ever seen, and has quite a personality for a one week old. She loves holding hands, has big curious eyes, and is a great sleeper, just like her mommy. We are very lucky and grateful to have the support of such great family and friends, and thank everyone for understanding the delay of communication - we hate to deliver this news on the first day of this new year. Lastly, we’ve been trying to come up with the words to make this request, and it isn’t easy. Many of you know that Kenzie and I are not particularly religious. We wholeheartedly respect everyone’s beliefs, and understand that many of you would like to pray for Layla. While your prayers are absolutely welcome, in private and amongst yourselves, we just ask that everyone send positive and encouraging thoughts our way. Please consider donating or participating in fundraising events for organizations supporting pediatric cancer, volunteering at a children’s hospital, donating blood regularly, or doing anything you can to make a tangible difference in the life of a child in need. Love, The Liss Family We are accepting Donations through DTL to help Josh and Kenzie at this time. See the link below to make donations through Paypal or how to send donations through mail. Thank you all for helping us at this very challenging time.
