As we head into Thanksgiving break, we are grateful for so much, including the partnership, trust, and support of everyone associated with Friends School. And we are also grateful for the principles that are the foundation of our community, and that call on our students and all of us to engage the world, even - especially - when it is hard, to value justice and peace...with a conscious responsibility to the good of all. From a note today from Head of Lower School Annette Hearing to parents of students in the ELC - fifth grade: It was such a moving experience to see each child in our lower school arrive to Meeting for Worship this morning, carrying a can, a box of food, or other supplies for Liberia. Each item was carefully placed at the edge of the stage and on the steps leading up to the stage, and they then became a focus for our final Meeting for Worship before Thanksgiving. As one fifth grader said, Im so proud to be a part of this - look at what we did! We can certainly each have a helpless feeling when we hear about issues nearby and far away. It often seems like theres nothing any one of us can do. This mornings visual demonstration of the possibilities and the beauty of working together was quite powerful! Happy Thanksgiving.
