As we motorists suffered the two-hour crawl from Quezon Avenue to Cubao early this afternoon, MMDA Chair Tolentino landed in Tuguegarao City to attend a transport summit and present an MMDA study on Tuguegarao traffic. Chair Tolentino talked about the MMDA traffic enforcer who sells kakanin on the side, the hunt for the blue Maserati driver, the traffic lights he will grant to the City next year. Bagay TODA President Callueng asked Chair Tolentino his thoughts on the kambal system and the proliferation of colorum tricycles in the City. Chair Tolentino said he is not the person to whom the question should be directed. Someone from the Bureau of Fire asked if he thought Tuguegarao is ready for the installation of traffic lights. Chair Tolentino replied that it is the locals who should determine that for themselves. The brilliant question from Tuao Mayor Francisco Mamba sought the opinion of Tolentino, the head of a Metro Manila agency attending a summit concerning Tuguegarao transport, regarding the heavy trucks plying the Caraballo zigzag in Sta. Fe, Nueva Vizcaya. After one last question from the audience, the good Chairman left by private plane as he was scheduled to meet the mayors and other local government officials of the Second District of Cagayan. We are tired of parachuting politicians. Chair Tolentinos appearance today was not good or felt presence, but a disengagement from the real concerns of real Tuguegaraoeños. Besides, 2016 in mind and had minimum staff work been done, the folly of attending a transport summit called by a city government recently slammed with an injunction case by van drivers and operators for violation of their constitutional rights would have been apparent.
