As we near the end of another year and rapidly approaching the 3rd anniversary of Project BARK - this is probably the most important post we have ever sent out - challenging any and all to share this far and wide - its long, but so very worth it to read. If anyone is interested in carpooling to this event, please post here - and PLEASE SHARE! Thanks to Bev Levine for this info :) Please make plans to attend the Nov 21 Guilford County Commissioners Meeting if you can. At this meeting, the commissioners will vote on the proposed dog tethering ban (a ban on unattended chaining of pet dogs) which was presented to them earlier this week by Frankie Heath at a working group session, and they may also sign a contract establishing a community spay/neuter assistance fund that night (this latter item may happen on the 21st if there is time; if not, it will be moved to the Dec meeting.) The tethering vote will definitely happen on the 21st. Even if your animal passion--feral cats, say--is not covered by either of these topics, please consider coming out--the goal is to show our commissioners that a lot of people in the community care about how our animals are treated across the board. We want to pack the courtroom with people who want to improve the political environment for all animals in Guilford. And the tethering issue also has important public safety aspects, as dogs who are constantly chained outside are much more likely to be aggressive towards people than dogs treated more humanely. Please bring family, friends, and colleagues, and please forward/post this message so that other animal advocates can attend. Dog volunteers at GCAS, please forward to the rest of the volunteers there--the tethering issue is an important one for anyone who cares about dogs welfare in Guilford! The Board of Commissioners meet at 5:30 p.m. in the Commissioners’ Meeting Room located on the second floor of the Old Courthouse, 301 W. Market St., Greensboro. Parking is available at different lots around the courthouse area--meters must be fed til 6 pm (so stick in a quarter or two), and then parking is free after 6 pm. All meetings are open to the public.
