As we prepare for our family reunion later this month, I am very grateful to cousins Theo and Patricia Dimling Reuther, who shared with Vera and me some historical photos that our father Victor Reuther gave to them many years ago. The dates of these photos range from 1946, where our father is meeting with General Omar Bradley discussing reemployment rights for US servicemen returning from the war, to a trade union leadership meeting with General Dwight D. Eisenhower in Belgium in 1953, meeting with Algerian President Ahmed Ben Bella in Nov. 1963, speaking to a group of Catholic Cardinals during the Ecumenical Council at Pro Deo University in Rome November 20 1964, and welcoming Never On Sunday film star Melina Mercouri to the picket line in Washington DC protesting US aid to the Greek military Junta in 1967. I still remember Melina coming to our house in DC after the demonstration, and I know that at least one of us in the family got a kiss! Maybe brother Eric Reuther can fill us in on this! As I look through these photos, I can understand why Papa Victor spent so many days each year away from family. We miss him and Nana Sophie with all our hearts!
