As we seem to have a lot of new folk finding this page I felt it appropriate to post just a few of my many photographs which I took of the conditions at Wiccaweys Rescued Border Collies . These photographs were taken over a period of time in 2013 and which prompted the Rspca to raid this rescue and remove over 20 dogs ..Although the photographs show the appalling conditions last year, it was these deteriorating conditions and serious concerns about the welfare and treatment of the dogs which I have witnessed over the years which prompted me to act. I could not ignore the filthy state of the dogs, their urine soaked coats, sore pads and demoralised spirits any longer. I knew that this was a totally unacceptable way to keep dogs, but the owners Sarah and Paul could not see anything wrong with this, despite many of the volunteers expressing concerns, our opinions and suggestions were not welcomed. The incident which was the last straw for me was when myself and another volunteer watched as an ill gorgeous young leggy collie boy was literally folded up and put into a small travel crate and put into the shop. He couldnt move as he had no room and he couldnt stand. I will never ever forget the sheer look of desperation etched on his face as to my shame we walked away. We never saw him again as shortly afterwards he was put to sleep. Conditions at Wiccaweys have been worsening over a period of years. It has been interesting to read on the Walkers Blog of references made back in 2010 of the dogs running around in the barn and of Julia cleaning out the crates !!!!! Prior to reporting my concerns to the Rspca I was a very staunch supporter of Wiccaweys and would not hear a word spoken against them, but slowly I began to realise that the Wiccaweys portrayed on their website was so far removed from the reality of how the dogs were looked after on a day to day basis. Wiccaweys website state : +++ All our dogs are fully assessed and live in our family environment, so we know exactly who will suit who. This means they live as part of our family and have free range to exercise and toys. They are not kept kennelled. The dogs are carefully assessed within our home environment. They receive basic training, are socialised in as many different situations as possible. Our dogs meet and are exposed to cats, horses and livestock. We know exactly who likes what. The dogs are vaccinated, neutered (unless they are too young, too old, or the vet advises against it for a medical reason), wormed, flea treated and microchipped. -+++ Following a 7 month investigation by the Rspca, during which time help was given to enable new kennels to be built, and the dogs returned, but again their website maintains that the dogs are not kennelled, when clearly they are and Wiccaweys have themselves been posting staged video clips which support this. Many folk who have experiences of the real Wiccaweys remain concerned for the safety and the welfare of these dogs whilst the same management remain in charge and who think that it is perfectly acceptable for dogs to be confined in small spaces , paddling in their own wee/poo, rarely with bedding, no toys or stimulation for virtually 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year ........and for many of these dogs who are deemed special/sponsor dogs this is a pretty shocking life sentence. The Rspca assure me that they will be closely monitoring Wiccaweys and will be undertaking regular checks, and that this will continue after they move from Wellingborough. I am in regular contact with the Rspca and I will ensure that these checks and monitoring will happen for a very long time. But, I feel that it is within the publics interest, particularly as many folk are very generous with donations, to be aware of the truth of Wiccaweys, and I have only ever told the truth. Questions need to be asked and Wiccaweys owe it to their many supporters to be open and honest. Eleanor
