As we today commemorate the revolutionary 1976 class of young heroes and heroines that fearlessly stood up and confronted injustice apartheid regime and its extented mechinery tantacles, maybe we need to pause, Critically reflect and remind ourselves of the character of the oppressed African society of that time. What were the fundamental base lines that drove the youth and led to such commentable gallant uprising?. Besides the obnoxious racial oppresion labelled against African in the land of their birth, Afrikaans was forcefully shovelled down the throats of African learners as a medium of instruction within the parameters of infamous bantu education. Indoctrination (brainwashing) was architected to undermine the intergrity of African society, culture and self esteem. It was meant to instigate fear and self hate among US. It was meant to promote the hegemony, superiority, and dominace of whites and western cultures over Africans. The curriculum and content was purposefully and irellevantly designed to frustrate our civic society, youth in particular in to collectors of water and sowers of wood for their white bosses I.e. that is why our parents and elders were referred to as " garden boys and kitchen girls". schools were characterised by crowded classrooms, lack of proper facilities to promote human dignity, no learning resources under qualified teachers and no financial resorces and funding. No job opportunities, and career avanues created for the youth of that time. Indeed the Afrcan society was seen as a slavery tools and mechineries to drive and thrive white economic growth and wealth creation for the white families. It is these horrible and abdominable social ills that drove the youth in to formidable black power, a force that took to street in non violence mass demonstration that spearheaded the democratic gains we enjoy today. I there for challenge and urge the youth of today to be vigilant and robust in identifying intolerable factors among them which are purposefully anti-revolutionary, reactionary, demagogic, aimed at undermining and reversing our democratic gains. We must jealously guard agajnst our revolution. We cannot allow tendencies which seek to undermine, betray and mislead our society. Our democracy is cast in stones and written in blood. The tree of our revolutionary freedom was nourished by the blood and flesh of our fallen heroines and heroes. Tell no lies, claim no easy victories. History will judge US in the next generation.
