As we turn the pages of the early Church story we meet many witnesses to the Risen Lord. In today’s reading Acts 8:1-8 -- Philip, one of those who had been scattered, ends up in Samaria; and his words and actions draw many to Jesus. Philip and the other witnesses had to have empowering conviction to have so many people drawn to Christ. This short account ends with these words, “There was great joy in the city.” This is the gift Jesus leaves to us -- joy. Have you ever had the experience of someone speaking about their faith and finding yourself more joyful as a result? I suppose the more important question for each of us is “do I bring joy to others when I speak of my faith or of the Church?” I hazard a guess and think the answer might be “not as often as I should.” Take a moment to pray about how you and I have the power today to lift someone’s spirits and when we do, we proclaim the resurrection.
