As you all probably (dont?) know, I have some pretty interesting stories come up when I go on my walks with Ella. Usually theyre funny but today, I was absolutely disgusted with what I found... Walking along the river today, I was greeted by many friendly people walking in the other direction which was nice, but I soon spotted something on the rocks. It was what I thought was an abnormally white rock but when I touched it, it was foam! A piece of foam the size of my head! I picked it up and intended to put it in the next bin I passed when a few metres ahead, I found another one floating on the surface of the water. I got a wet shoe but managed to fish it out. With two foamy pieces of rubbish in one hand and Ella in the other, I found a bin and chucked them in. Further along, when I was unfortunately almost home, I saw another white thing floating on the water caught in the rocks. I thought it looked like skinny foam tubing so I pulled on it and was mortified at the massive clump of plastic that followed! I brought it all the way back to the bin anyway, which didnt open all the way so I got a bit wet putting it in... I walked home slowly, scanning the riverbank. As if that wasnt enough, I also found a small piece of paper and a piece of plastic floating in two more different places, which I put in my bin at home (I wasnt going to walk all the way back again!). To make matters worse, as I was walking home I thought about all the people I had passed until I found the litter. As a person with a vision impairment and severe tunnel vision, I would expect that they had seen the things Id put in the bin before me and outright ignored them. This is not the attitude we should have. If you see trash anywhere in this beautiful world, please pick it up and put it in the bin. In addition, obviously we shouldnt be disposing of it irresponsibly in the first place. A river is not a bin! Dont take what we have for granted. If we all do our part, we can make it a wonderful place to live for ourselves and our childrens futures. #CleanTheEarth
