As you are aware earlier this year together with a number of dear and trusted friends, I founded a charitable Trust foundation - Associação Childrens Diabetic Trust - Fiscal identification nº 510786405. The Trusts aim is to help children with Type 1 Diabetes, a cause close to my heart, as my son is a diabetic type 1 with severe complications. As you may be aware diabetes type 1 is also known as the silent killer due to the severe complications that may occur if not regulated. Working closely with Faro Hospital the Trust has this year provided two Insulin Pumps for two children ages 15 and 12 - one of whom is the Portuguese National Trampoline Champion. Via a catheter, these insulin pumps provide highly regulated, controlled doses of insulin to the patient dispensing of various painful daily injections, limited physical activity and future complications. Lea was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 3. Now at 7 years old she like any other child loves to play sports and particularly to dance, none of which she is able to do due to her illness. Lea urgently needs an insulin pump if she is to have any chance of a normal, healthy and long life. With your help the Trust believes the Euros 4,500 needed to purchase this machine and the consumabes for 1 year can be raised. Please help us to provide a better life for Lea by sending your donation to: Account name :A.C.D.T.-A C Diabetic Trust, Quinta Shpoping, Escritorio 116,Almancil, 8135-024 NIB: 003500160000224193076 If you would like to have further information on Lea and her present situation please send your queries direct to facebook. The Trusts website is currently under construction but once it is underway regular progress reports will be posted on each child who receives an insulin pump. Information on future fund raising events will also be posted - with 10 pumps available, Faro Hospital will qualify to be the Algarve centre of assistance for insulin pump users. An aim well worth supporting. Friday the 14th November is International Diabetic Awareness Day and on that day we wil,l via facebook, commence a diabetic test yourself challenge, as many people are not even aware they have diabetes type 1 or type 2 so check out facebook on that day for further instructions. Lots of love Petra Evertsz
