As you can see by the video, Stuarts Opera House was shakin last night to the music of Conjunto Chappottin y Sus Estrellas, one of the top Cuban son groups on the scene today. The fiunding band dates back to the 1940s and its founder, Arsenio Rodriguez, one of the countrys most renowned band leaders and a major influence on Latin Jazz and Salsa for decades. With his Conjunto, he was the first to add reed and brass instruments to a Latin band. He later turned the band over to his first trumpet player, Felix Chappottin and the band was renamed. After his death in 1983 his son and grandson have contined directing the band. They are on tour in the U.S. for 6 weeks then will return to Cuba. They were in love with Nelsonville and said it reminded them of their town in Cuba.
