As you know, the Zambian Embassy in Belgium has promised to host this years independence party as it is the 50th and therefore a memorable anniversary. We have had to ask numerous times for an update as to date, time and place and finally we are able to give you some detail. Since the Embassy is the one throwing the event, they wanted to make sure that it would be a party that would both attract investors as well as be celebratory for the Zambians and their sympathizers. Because they want investors and businessmen to come, they decided to throw the party on Thursday the 23rd of October. The venue is at a lovely location called Birmingham Palace, 112 rue de Birmingham, 1070 in Brussels. Investors and businessmen are welcome from 16:00 until 18:30 with the guest of honor being the honorable minister Bob Sichinga. The party for us will commence from 18:30 until midnight. All food and drinks will be catered for by the Embassy and will therefore not cost us any money. There will be a dj and a master of ceremonies who will make sure that the ambiance will be fantastic! Also, the Embassy has organised for a band to come from Zambia called Amma Bombwe. There will be a separate room with caterers to take care of children as well. The Embassy has ensured us that this will be a big celebratory event painstakingly planned to be the best party ever. Some of you may plan to drive down by car, others would like to find a way to travel together. So far we found a bus that will cost 1000 euros, so if for example 50 people sign up it means that it will be 20 euros per person to travel down and come back the same day by bus. Please let us know as soon as possible whether youd like to travel by bus or whether you will make your own way down. In any case, we need to tell the Embassy exactly how many of us are going so that they can reserve the seats and make sure there is enough food and drinks for us. In the unlikely event that most of us would like to throw our own event on the 25th of October at the location where we held the party 2 years ago, please let us know and we will make sure that we can make that happen. As you consider your options, we would like to remind you that it was the Embassy and not the board that emphasized that the party must be held in Belgium among our fellow brothers and sisters to make this a memorable event. We agree with them that it would be fantastic to hold it together with them if we are able to make it. The decision of what to do is up to you. Since it is at such short notice, please let us know latest by Monday the 15th of September what you prefer and what you sign up for and we will act in due course.
