As you list your 2015 resolutions, its just me who finds it irrational & insensitive for our system to only give kids from elite schools say Molo Academy & likes who scored highly a chance to study at elite secondary schools say Mangu, Alliance, PB etc at the expense of a pupil who scored averagely from a day school say in Turkana, or even at the backyard of my village? The conditions under which the two achieved that marks is so different in that each just deserves the best. Whereas a kid in Molo Academy was studying for almost all his available time with best conditions possible, the one in Turkana was dealing with cattle rustlers at night, before waking up to walk for 15km to school, if he dares come back for lunch, then he wont make the afternoon classes, he therefore opts to go hungry whole afternoon somedays. The following day he might just miss school to repair his gun, and go check if his dads herd is okay in the field. If its a girl, she takes all the chores at home, before walking for all that distance to school. In a month, she misses severally classes during menstrual period. Amid all that, he or she manages 240marks only to be denied a chance to study under better conditions simply coz the other one scored 400marks!!! Although I understand the system itself is designed such a way that if your dad was a poor man who the only place he would have afforded to educate you is in a village in Turkana, Baringo or even the backyard of my village, then even if his son who scored 250marks is given an opportunity in those elite schools, again he wont afford to take you there. But why the hell are those schools so expensive? Well equiped?????? If so, why cant we then equip all schools? Or if we cant do that, why not just stop them from doing same exams? Its illogical to build a tall wall, give few people ladders to climb to see whats on the other side, then proceed to measure & reward everyone else based on their ability to see the other side over the wall. Its stupid. Im past falling victim to such heinous system, but that wont stop me from questioning for those vulnerable to such. It sickens!!! May be we should all be thinking of going mad with booze as we wait a new year, but I chose to think about this & hope even as your president will be addressing you as he welcomes a new, he too will deeply have to reflect on this in an effort to create a society where all have an equal plartform to dictate their future.
