As you may have also known, in the recent days a number of worrisome events have occurred in #Turkey. The protest rallies during the #Gezi Park resistance have evolved into a new movement, shortly called the “Gezi Spirit”, which is basically about having a word about the city we live in, about the #ecology, about the #LGBT rights, about women’s rights and about peace. The response of the government against this movement has been very straightforward: More aggression and oppression. The clear result of this response from the government has come out as follows: In ODTU (Middle East Technical University) peaceful demonstrators have been attacked by #police corps, using tear gas in excessive amounts, even causing fires in the university campus. Also in #Ankara, the neighborhoods where #Alevite citizens constitute a majority are terrorized by brutal police aggression. Another direct threat to Alevites have been carried out in #Istanbul as well. In Sarigazi, a “Cemevi” (place of worship for Alevites) was attacked with automatic guns, injuring one. The reason was that the Syrian refugees of Alevite descent were taking shelter at this facility. The last but the most heartbreaking news came from Hatay (a southern province) where a protester was killed, again, during a police aggression. He was 22 years old and he is a already the 3rd victim of police violence from this small city. Seeing all these events, as the Gezi Solidarity for the #Netherlands, we have planned a protest meeting at the #Dam Square in #Amsterdam on 15 September. We want to remember the ones we have lost, we want to show our solidarity with the peoples of Turkey and we want to protest the police violence.
