As you may have heard, there was an unexpected mix-up involving Toys for Tots this year because as the holidays got closer, several organizations received no toys to pass out to local children. But, this is Pittsburgh—we don’t let things like this happen; we come together as a community, and we give whenever and however we can. We talk to our friends, our neighbors, and our family members, and we solve problems. So, it’s no surprise that when a few local bloggers read about the story on the news, they teamed up immediately and organized an emergency toy drive along with an online fundraiser to make sure that no local children went without holiday presents this year. In less than 48 hours, the group raised $10,000 to purchase toys for more than 2,000 local children. They worked with a local art gallery, Most Wanted Fine Art in Garfield, where they recruited volunteers and collected donations all weekend long. Hundreds—maybe thousands—of toys were delivered, while volunteers poured in and out sorting toys and delivering them to local organizations. But, there’s still more to do. There are so many kids who may still face this Christmas with no presents. We believe in Pittsburgh, and we know we can keep up the generous spirit for which we are known. Please consider donating to the Emergency Toy Drive if you’re able. Every penny counts, and will go toward making sure all of our children get presents this holiday season.
